We were excited to be a part of the beginning and ending of Carnaval Camp 2020 with Cajueiro Claro. Here is a deeper look into what it was like, and my amazi...

Prayers and Praises

Praises for the first week after Carnaval (which some call the New Year in Brazil, because that’s when things really get started for the year) which went really well for Living Stones! Cajueiro Claro continued well (You can see the official video about Carnaval Camp here), Lagoa had a great sign up/kick off, and Guadalajara played their first soccer game of the year against the International School team (they tied 6-6).

Praises for getting to help the great ministry PPC is doing at the local trash dump. We have about 50-60 kids living in the community near the local trash dump. Their families work to sort, recycle, and burn the trash from our 100,000+ town. I’ve known these kids since 2012, and it means the world to me to see their “House of Dreams” community center (a rented house in the trash dump community) turned into an amazing educational center. I am training one of their workers, an amazing 16 year old name Dora, to teach some basic English and love on some great kids.

Praises for a great time visiting some of the families around Cajueiro Claro—I even got to meet this cute little Quati in the picture below (such an interesting animal)!

  6. The Pink Bike: “For all the beauty that a third culture kid lifestyle brings (understanding of and appreciation of a broader world, ability to adapt, a near-absence of prejudices, foreign language aptitude), these kids (and later, adults) know so well the world of loss. Sometimes the losses feel real and present, like loss of bikes and houses and friends and pets. Sometimes the losses are hidden and ambiguous loss, the unseen, hard-to-put-into-words losses such as dreams, confidence, identity and belonging. For me, it’s actually easier to keep moving, keep building, keep Pollyanna-ing my way through hard things than to stop and grieve. Both taking the necessary time to mourn and also putting energy into moving forward can feel like a balancing act.” ( A Life Overseas)
