Prayers and Praises

Praises for personal growth and time to work on deep inner healing, prayers as we continue!

Praises for fun times doing fun things (we had a Brazilian holiday, and took full advantage of the time off).

Praises for an amazing little lady who loves dancing, singing, and creating, who turned 5! We love you Sofia! Praises for a great community of people who creatively worked to safely give Sofia lots of love (we had two short parties of friends over to make sure we could distance…well, as much as you distance with children).

Prayers for Brazil, as we’ve reached 60,000 Covid deaths (second to only the USA), and the last two weeks have been our worst yet—while at the same time, non-essential buisnesses are now open (with restrictions), and churches at 30% capacity. Schools—well, we still don’t know.

Interweb Reads:

  1. Ethical Storytelling: have you checked this out? A really big part of missions is telling stories—stories that are not your own. It is really important and really tricky—and we have to do better. This is a good resource that I need to check out more.

  2. What it’s like to be Black at Liberty University: “As an employee, she has become similarly aware of the whiteness of the school’s leadership ranks. “The power structure on campus is definitely not built in favor of minorities, so it’s hard for us to speak out,” she said. “Most of us are in lower-level positions, and we can’t afford to risk our jobs.” (Slate)

  3. The Hidden Figures of the Church: “The absence of Breonna Taylor from evangelical conversations about racial justice is indicative of a broader issue. Despite being the most religiously devout Christian demographic in the country, black women are underrepresented in almost every significant public facet of evangelical life, from black heroines in church history to black authors in Christian publishing.” (Christianity Today)
