Sunday Funday Mother's Day

Playing in the garden hose, chairs six feet apart eating Acai, back to school--finding ways to celebrate, which is truly an act of defiance towards cynicism....

Prayers and Praises

Praises as Sofia made a full recovery last week from her intestinal infection, and we celebrated with Acai!

Praises as online school started with the International school: the girls are loving it, and I am doing pretty well figuring out the ins and outs of google classroom and explaining things in English and Portuguese for my students.

Praises as all of the Living Stones locations have recieved—and will continue as needed—food baskets, and the leaders are putting together YouTube channels and videos to regularly send out to the children, as public schools are unable to offer the students any help online.

Praises for a lovely Mother’s Day with a really great husband (as my littles aren’t really great at celebrating without help).

Interweb Reads:

  1. The Priviledge of Freedom of Movement: “Anyways, one example of our privilege here: we have foreign bank accounts and foreign credit cards, so even if it means we have to book a quick trip outside Lebanon to pull out cash from the ATM, we still have access to our money. While we are struggling with the skyrocketing cost of living, it’s nothing compared to those who have to deal with the rising cost of food while at the same time not getting their salaries, or having their money held hostage in a bank account. Another privilege that I have often felt so ashamed of is our freedom of movement. Even in the worst of times, when car bombs were exploding every week, we always knew in the back of our heads that we could jump into our car, drive to the airport, buy a ticket to almost anywhere and get out. It’s not a privilege we think about often, but I think it’s always there, in the deep recesses of our mind. We are free to leave whenever we want.” (A Life Overseas)

  2. Ann Voskamp on Mother’s Day: She has three free printables that are really cute!

  3. 6 Tips for Mentorship: As someone who has always tried to be a good mentor (I often called it discipleship), I have recently really realized that I need a mentor as well—which seems to be much harder to do and get. (Velvet Ashes)

  4. Hope as the church’s long game: “Regardless of economic status, fear is rampant and people are looking for a scapegoat. It is widely believed in Cambodia that western tourists and NGO workers are spreading the disease. The theory that the US Army planted the virus in Wuhan back in December is commonly accepted across the sub-continent. New visas from the United States and Western Europe were indefinitely barred several weeks back.” ( A Life Overseas)

  5. White Man Ran Threw Neighborhood Carrying a TV: I am not asking for outrage, but I am asking for thoughtful pause and discussion about Ahmaud Arbery and how we think/react to the news/updates about it. (Insider)
