Sunday Funday July 26

Not a regular vlog-this is actually for the Social Media class I am teaching online:), but maybe you’ve thought about starting a Youtube channel, or wonder what a Youtuber is, so here is your video for this week.

Prayers and Praises

Great weather (cooler/rainy for Caid), good schedule (we’ve gotten into our mostly-at-home life), and regular dates (we’ve gotten the babysitters scheduled) have been such a blessing during this time of waiting and unknowns.

Praises for a really great team here in Brazil—I got to meet with some of the ladies from our Taco Tuesday group—for a lunch away from the kiddos, and it was so refreshing!

Prayers for decisions and making sure to follow God’s leading.

Interweb Reads

  1. Understanding Sustainability means talking about Colonialism: “The environmental slogan of the ’80s — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — has mostly ignored the first two more important R’s and focused on recycling because it encourages consumption and continues to nourish and expand the disposable culture that drives the environmental destruction it is supposed to mitigate. “ (The Cut)

  2. When your Story gets in the Way: “An International Director explained that most powerful stories, the ones that develop leadership character, were the ones that were “told from a position of humility, a desire to continue to learn and grow and a recognition that every person or character within the story contributed something into that story to enhance the work or enable it to happen.” He said: “That kind of story not only grows people but it strengthens organizations.” (A Life Overseas) Stories and how we tell them to ourselves and others is so powerful—like these stories we don’t tell. (Go Serve Love)

  3. Race Reckoning and the White Third Culture Kid: “So what does that mean for me, as a privileged, little white girl growing up in a country where people had varying shades of brown skin? What does that mean to someone who is a guest in a country that had a recent history of colonization by the British Empire? For me, this primarily means being honest.” (Communicating Across Boundaries)

  4. Do Good Better Book List: Yep, another list—this is a good one for those in ministry, looking to do good better.

  5. When God Withholds Sleep: a big big deal lately in our home. (Desiring God)

  6. A Christian Approach to Moving Beyond Racial Gridlock: An Alternative to Secular “Black Lives Matter” and “All Lives Matter” Ideologies: I need to study more into this—I am really appriciating what the Gospel Coalition is bringing to the table!

  7. Hearts that Carry Too Much: “There are more issues crying for our attention than we normally have in a much longer span of time. The intensity of the issues we’re facing is daunting. They’re literally life and death. I don’t have to look far to read strong arguments telling me what I should believe about all of them, and that I should act on all of them. I look for a balance between knowing what is happening but not knowing so much that it disrupts me in unhealthy ways. While I want to care well for the people around me and be engaged in important issues, some days it feels like too much for my heart to carry.” (Gina Butz)
