Interweb Reads:
The Decline and Fall of Jerry Falwell: an Important read, and if you like it, you should subscribe to “The Dispatch” (for free, like me, or you can pay for more access to more things). I heard about it from the Holy Post Podcast (which is hitting it out of the park these days!), and really appriciate David French’s perspective. (The Dispatch)
The Tree who set Healthy Boundaries: the Giving Tree alternate ending I didn’t know I needed:). And there is a free PDF of it if you want! (Topher Payne)
Large DNA study traces violent history of American Slavery: Until this history became MY history from marrying Caid, I had never considered any of these continuing ramifications of slavery. The farther you are from it personally, it easier it is not to see. But my daughters? We don’t know half of their family line because of slavery. There are so many random missing pieces because it was LITERALLY stolen from our great-great whatever grandparents. Right now, I tell my daughters a toned down story—there is no easy way to say “Our last name is Ferguson because a white man owned your great….grandmother and raped her.” Don’t tell me this doesn’t matter today. (The New York Times)
In push to reopen, American Evangelicals fall prey to Political Strategy: I am not sure how I feel about all of this, but it does make some important points. (Sojourners)
Why Now is the Best Time to Stop Seeking Perfection: “Before my husband continued, we overheard her boasting to her coworkers in nearby cubicles. “Hey, everyone, you’ll never guess what I have on the line . . . a compliment!” She must’ve put us on speaker because we could hear the enjoyment from the other coworkers as we continued. She thanked us, and we hung up laughing, eyes peeled for any other excellent truck drivers on the road. Since that day, my husband and I have aimed to habitually find the good in others.” (Ann Voskamp)
Un, Eric Metaxas Said that Jesus was White? I am not sure if many those of us who are white understand how saying Jesus is white is so self-centering… (Relevant)
